What are you thinking?

I have always heard about limiting beliefs and did not really think I had them. I working with some awareness coaching now that is bringing them out. It says it in the Bible as a Man thinketh in his heart so is he. We need to trust who we were made to be and Stop Doubting!!

When you think a thought that is not helping you be the best you can be, then write them down so you are aware or what you are thinking.  I used to always just think 'you can't think that way' and think a positive thought but that does not get rid of them. Write them down and then you understand more where your thinking is coming from.  Then it is very important  at the end of each day write three good things you did today.  For others as well as yourself.  See what happens within one week.

Live in the Present

This morning I was talking to my assistant about yesterday, she asked what I did and I had no idea. I do not sit around doing nothing, I knew I was busy all day. Doing what?
It drove this home to me. I am so often worried about what I am doing that taking the time and enjoying all that I have accomplished. Feeling accomplished. I was just asked to write at least three things at the end of the day that I accomplished and so often I can't come up with something meaningful. So I have started writing down all the things I do, doesn't matter how small.

So if you consider yourself a hard worker and feel like you are spinning your wheels, write down like I am all tasks you do during the day and then reflect at night. What a difference in celebrating what you have done. What is happening today?

It is that time of year again! Need to kick that immune system up? You do not use Echinacea more than 10 days at a time then do 5 days off and then 10 on again, if you are not better. So many times when I have ran myself much further than I should have, late nights, irregular meal time, no exercise and the list goes on.  We so often put all other things in life before ourselves and then the dreaded..... This has been amazing to kick up those T cells and get rid of the viruses that bring us down.  This is an exclusive to our company.

BREAST HEALTH

Support breast health at every age

Women of all ages are concerned about breast health. Younger women tend to be concerned about breast discomfort and general lumpiness while older women tend to worry about cancer detection as well as cancer prevention. So let’s review important facts about breast health.

Women in their 20s and 30s

In your 20s and 30s

The main concern for women in their 20s and 30s is breast discomfort, which is usually a sign of fibrocystic breasts due to cysts in the breast tissue that often increase in size in the last half of the menstrual cycle. These hormonally related fluctuations in size often result in tenderness and raise concerns in women about being a sign of cancer. Fibrocystic breast changes are not correlated with an increased risk of breast cancer, but if you are noticing changes in your breasts, you should talk with your physician.

Avoiding caffeine is commonly recommended with fibrocystic breast-related tenderness, although clinical research has shown mixed results. The good news is that only 5 percent of breast cancer cases occur in women younger than 40, and mammograms are generally not recommended until after age 40 unless there is a strong family history of cancer, in which case genetic testing may be advised.
Woman in her 40s

In your 40s

The glandular tissue of breasts starts to decrease and breasts become more fatty, leading to a tendency for breasts to lose firmness. Maintaining a healthy weight is the best strategy to minimize the tendency for breasts to sag with age.

The risk for breast cancer for this age group begins to increase. While there has been some controversy about the best time to start mammograms, most doctors recommend beginning mammograms around age 40. The National Cancer Institute’s new guidelines recommend screening mammograms every one to two years for women aged 40–49 if they are at average risk of breast cancer. Digital mammography is preferred because it is more accurate and it’s easier to compare different images from different years.i
Woman in her 50s

For ages 50 and over

Menopause brings about many changes for women, including changes in their breasts. The ongoing loss of glandular tissue can result in less tenderness. Declining hormone levels lead to loss of the cyclical tenderness that many women experience. These changes also make diagnostic tests such as mammography easier to interpret because of the decreased density.

Overall breast cancer risk increases over age 50 and any new lump after menopause requires a doctor’s immediate attention. The National Cancer Institute suggests a mammogram every one to two years for women over 50.ii Obesity is a definite risk factor for breast cancer, so it is a good idea to achieve and maintain an ideal body weight.iii Smoking and alcohol intake beyond one drink per day are also risk factors.

Healthy habits at any age

It's never too early to start thinking about how to have healthy breasts—or too late to make changes for the better.

No matter your age, you can lower your risk of breast cancer if you limit alcohol to one drink a day or less, quit smoking if you smoke now, and get to a healthy weight. It's also important to get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Be sure to visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventative screenings. It’s always a good idea to be aware of your body and let your doctor know if you notice any changes.

Breast Cancer—What to look for:

The National Cancer Institute urges all women to report the following breast changes to their doctors:
  • A lump in or near your breast or underarm
  • Thick or firm tissue in or near your breast or underarm
  • Nipple discharge or tenderness
  • Any nipple changes
  • Itching or skin changes on your breast, including redness or dimpling

MYTH BUSTERS:

Research has shown that wearing bras, trauma to your breasts, and use of antiperspirants do not increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

The science behind YOUTH® Skin Care

The science behind YOUTH® Skin Care

Chris Kyrou is the Vice President of Skin Care Research & Development at Shaklee Corporation and chief scientist behind the new YOUTH® Skin Care line.  Prior to joining Shaklee, Chris led the skincare development program in Research & Development for a major Fortune 500 company, and he has over 20 years of beauty industry experience formulating and leading development of skincare products and color cosmetics.

With 8 patents and patents-pending, YOUTH Skin Care represents a breakthrough in skin care science. Our promise is you will not only dramatically improve the health of your skin with YOUTH, but it’s 100% guaranteed to shift the appearance of your skin to a younger age.

We were able to talk to Chris about the new YOUTH product line and the science behind it:

Q: At the 2017 Global Conference Shaklee launched YOUTH Skin Care. How is this skin care line different from others in the market?

There is clearly a growing trend in today’s skin care market where women and men are seeking more natural beauty products. The challenge to meeting this consumer need is delivering nature-based products that also deliver on high performance anti-aging benefits consumers are satisfied with.  What we consistently hear from consumers is that they often have to trade-off for purity and safety and instead use brands that rely on many questionable chemicals to deliver the desired efficacy. Essentially, you have these mutually exclusive spaces in the market today where you’re either free of questionable chemicals or you deliver high performance……Until now…..

This is what YOUTH really answers for these consumers. We’ve found that “sweet spot” where safety & purity meets results, something we call Clinical Results without Compromise. With YOUTH, we have developed products that we’ve clinically demonstrated deliver amazing efficacy. But we didn’t have to rely on questionable chemicals to deliver on that efficacy.

Q: What are some key highlights that you can tell us about YOUTH Skin Care?

Our Breakthrough YOUTH Complex is at the center of our new YOUTH skin care line.  It is designed to work at the cellular level in the skin and is truly on the cutting edge of skin care science in that it is designed to address the multiple causes of skin aging:

As we age, our skin cell renewal rate slows down dramatically, causing our skin to lose its youthful radiance and softness.  Our YOUTH complex has a powerful combination of Apple Cell Extract and gentle Vitamin A retinol to help accelerate skin cell renewal to a more youthful rate.
Another thing that changes in our skin as we age is that it is not able to transport nutrients to where they are needed so that our skin cells have the energy they need to function properly.  Our YOUTH Complex also contains Shisandra chinensis fruit extract to help structurally provide more nutrients and energy to the skin.

In addition, our skin produces less collagen and elastin as we age, and unfortunately this process starts early in life…in our 20’s.  The latest scientific research indicates that skin cells responsible for producing these proteins receive fewer signals to product them as we age.  Over time, this leads to the appearance of wrinkles, loss of firmness and sagging of the skin.  Our YOUTH Complex contains a first-to-market Lotus Japonicus extract that activates a newly discovered Youth Protein in the skin that has been shown to signal these cells to produce more collagen and elastin.  Our research indicates that we are first in the market to target this newly discovered Youth Protein.

Last, but certainly not least, it is not only important to rejuvenate your skin, but you must also protect it from the damaging effects of the environment.  Not only do these environmental factors accelerate aging of the skin starting at an early age in life, but as we age our skin is also less equipped to defend itself.  This is why we incorporated our exclusive, patent-pending Muscadine Grape Polyphenols and multi-patented Vital-Repair+ (a blend of nutrients and vitamins) into our YOUTH Complex.  Both of these ingredients have been shown, in laboratory studies, to protect our skin cells from key damaging environmental factors that can lead to premature aging of the skin.

Q: YOUTH is formulated in accordance with the “Free of” list. What is the “Free of” list and why is it a big deal?

Our current “Free of” list for YOUTH is an excess of 2,500 questionable chemicals that we chose NOT to use when formulating our new YOUTH skin care products. The fact that we’ve been able to deliver clinically proven and demonstrable benefits in products that are a delight to use without relying on all of these questionable chemicals is really a breakthrough.  This was not easy to accomplish!  If there was ever an ingredient that has any question about its potential safety on skin, we put it on our “Free of” list. If we could find a safe alternative to any questionable chemical and preferably sourced from nature, we did that.  Shaklee has unparalleled quality and safety standards in the industry and we followed the strictest standards when formulating YOUTH.

A great example of the use of our “Free of” list is the sun protection system in our Age Defense Mineral Moisturizer SPF 30. Sun protection is the best thing you can do for your skin from an anti-aging and health perspective. There are many chemical-based sun filters that are approved by FDA, but we chose to look to nature and develop our mineral SPF moisturizer with one of the only FDA approved nature-based sunscreens,  Zinc oxide. Zinc oxide is naturally derived, it is mineral-based, and it is one of the most effective and safest broad-spectrum sunscreens approved by the FDA.

Q: Can you tell us about the Skin Age Index and why it was important for the development of YOUTH?

We wanted a very scientific and objective way to measure the effect of YOUTH on the age and appearance of the skin.  This is what led us to the newly developed Skin Age Index.  The Skin Age Index was clinically developed by world class skin experts in conjunction with Dermatologists at a 3rd party clinical research laboratory.   They studied the skin of over 100 women in their 20’s through 60’s and determined the 10 key skin attributes that change the most as we age.  From this research, they were able to develop a novel way to calculate the age of your skin’s appearance based on the presence or absence of these 10 key attributes.  This is what we call the Skin Age Index, which was interesting to us for two reasons: First, it was a breakthrough in how you objectively measure the age and appearance of skin with actual clinical data that has never been used before. Secondly, it provided us a way to measure whether YOUTH could actually shift the appearance of women’s skin back to a younger age.

Our YOUTH Advanced Anti-aging Regimen was tested by an independent 3rd party clinical testing laboratory.  60 women had their Skin Age Index measured before they started using our YOUTH products.  They used our Advanced Anti-aging regimen twice per day as directed and had their Skin Age Index measured again after using YOUTH.  The results were remarkable.  Women started to show significant improvements in their skin as early as 1 week.  100% of women in the study showed a measurable improvement in their Skin Age Index by 4 weeks, meaning they had younger looking skin based on clinical data!  And with continued use, two-thirds of women actually shifted their skin age into a younger decade!

Q: Why are you personally are excited about the launch of YOUTH Skin Care?

I think YOUTH represents an exciting new opportunity for Shaklee. It’s exciting that we’re entering the skin care market with a new product line again. A line that is true to what Shaklee represents—science based products that deliver unparalleled performance and products designed in harmony with nature with the highest purity and safety standards—I am honored to be a part of bringing this new skin care brand to our Shaklee family so that they can share YOUTH with others.  YOUTH is really going to deliver on an unmet consumer need in today’s skin care market.  We are already seeing and hearing about the great results real people have been experiencing with YOUTH and this is also exciting.

Why limit yourself?

How often do you believe that you can or can not do something. You may have tried and tried and then believe that you can't do it so you stop trying. You are usually right at a breakthrough point when you quit. There is NO one who is successful at what they are doing who has not failed over and over again.
Why do some succeed and some quit? The ones who succeed believe they can be successful or achieve what they are going for, and when they come across something they can not do they try again. I have experienced this many times thru the years.
You would think after you have succeeded at what you are doing or where you are going that you would not have those trip ups or challenges again. Well that is not true, it is a continual part of your journey. In fact they become bigger challenges for you to overcome. Each time we learn a little more, but the biggest thing you learn is that you do not quit. That is the ultimate failure.
So remember that your limitations are in your head not your capabilities. Why limit yourself???

Supplementation After Bariatric Surgery

I felt this was such an important topic, as there are so many people that are getting the surgery to take care of their weight issues.  Many people have gained their weight back as they have not changed any of their habits that brought them to this point.  Thanks for sharing this with your friends and family who have had this surgery.  It is still not known what the surgery's long term side effects are or the nutritional challenges that affect the individual's health.

Supplementation After Bariatric Surgery
Dr. Bruce Daggy

Bariatric surgery has become a more frequently utilized option for many people dealing with intractable obesity. Losing weight benefits health in many ways, including improving blood sugar control and heart health.

Bariatric surgery means that you’ve made a lifelong commitment to taking recommended dietary supplements along with eating a healthy diet.

Bariatric Surgery

There are three main types of bariatric surgery: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, and biliopancreatic diversion/duodenal switch. All types of bariatric surgery reduce the body’s ability to absorb nutrients.

It’s hard enough for people in the general population to fully meet their nutritional needs without supplementation, but even harder for someone who has undergone bariatric surgery.

It is important to understand that you are no longer able to get your nutritional needs met through diet alone – no matter which type of bariatric surgery you choose. This is because the surgery reduces the ability of the body to absorb nutrients.

Studies have shown that nutritional deficiencies are common in bariatric patients. The nutrient deficiencies most commonly found in bariatric patients include iron and B vitamins (B12, B1, folate and vitamin B6). Other common deficiencies include protein, essential fatty acids, calcium and vitamins A, C, D, K, and E.[i]

Nutritional deficiencies in bariatric patients include low iron[ii]  and certain neurological dysfunctions.[iii]

Which Vitamins to Choose?

Because absorption can be an issue with people who have bariatric surgery, bioavailability of the nutrients in the supplement you choose is important. Vitamins come in different forms (or types) and you need the ones most easily absorbed.

Following surgery, a chewable, liquid, or powdered form of nutrients is the best choice.

Recommended Lifetime Supplementation for Bariatric Patients:

A Multivitamin/Multimineral: For people with adjustable gastric banding, 100% of the Daily Value (DV) from a vitamin and mineral supplement is recommended. For people with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and biliopancreatic diversion/duodenal switch, 200% of the Daily Value (DV) is recommended.[iv] Some supplements are designed to contain 200% in a single serving, but it is also acceptable (and even preferable) to take your supplements more than once a day to increase absorption.
In addition to a multivitamin/multimineral:

Calcium: Added calcium is a good idea for anyone, but especially for gastric bypass patients. Once again, it is best to take calcium in divided doses (2-3 times a day).
B-vitamins: The B-vitamins (especially vitamin B12) is important for people with gastric bypass. An additional B-vitamin supplement is a good idea.
Vitamin D: is a common shortfall nutrient and is easy to supplement.
Iron: Another common deficiency is iron. Women who are still menstruating are at greatest risk and need to consider adding in an iron supplement.
Omega 3: Fish oil is a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids that are much needed in people after bariatric surgery. Gel caps or chewable forms are acceptable.
Protein is another important need for people with gastric bypass, so a meal replacement protein shake is a great idea.

Stay Ahead of the Game

The important thing to remember about nutrition is that it is easy to fall behind and difficult to correct. When your blood tests show your Vitamin D level is low, it can take months to bring levels back up to normal. Other nutrients are the same.

It is essential to make daily supplementation a life-long habit. A liquid or powdered multivitamin is your best choice. Look for a product that not only provides you vitamins and minerals but ideally also protein and dietary fiber.

As always, discuss any supplementation with your physician.

Success before Work?

So often people get frustrated because they are not getting the success they want as soon as they want and then quit, thinking that it is not meant to be. We need more people in this world that realize that success will come with hard work and not giving up. I was just reminded recently that it is so easy to compare ourselves to others. When we start comparing we stop ourselves from becoming successful.Step back and take a break and it is amazing how we get a fresh breath and then figure out the next step. This week one night I worked till 12:30 determined that I was going to figure out how to do something and then I went to bed frustrated. The next day I went in and one small change and I was successful with my project. It is work and determination that will bring success if yo don't quit. To many people are right on the edge of success and quit. Go for it!!

Understanding cellular aging

Understanding cellular aging

Healthy skin looks good and feels good We all want to look and feel great for as long as possible. But if you have ever been to a school reunion, you might have noticed something interesting: Some of your classmates look older than others. Why is there such a difference in the rate at which people age? Scientists have discovered that it all starts inside our cells.

For most of us, aging means loss of muscle strength, bone density, lung capacity, and memory, and our risk for conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dementia, and cancer all increase. When you graph the incidence of disease versus age, you notice something rather striking: Many chronic disease conditions are rare when we are young, but their incidence begins to increase around age 50. To scientists who study aging, this upsurge around age 50 suggests that there might be a common reason underlying the onset of some of the age-related diseases, and that may be cellular aging.

When we are born, we start out with a large population of healthy cells; then, ultraviolet radiation, environmental toxins, stress, and poor diet do damage to our cells. The more our cells are exposed, the more damage accumulates. It is this accumulated damage that eventually crosses a threshold that may lead to recognizable disease.1

Nutrition for your cells
What you really want to do is help your cells protect and repair themselves throughout life to help delay the onset of disease and better control the risks. One key to understanding cellular defense is knowing that cells require certain nutrients in the right amounts to be able to function normally to protect and repair themselves.2

NUTRIENTS:
EAT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: Since only nine percent of Americans eat the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, the opportunity for improving health (and longevity) by improving diet is great.3

TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN: Deficiency of the vitamins B12, B6, C, E, niacin, and folic acid as well as iron and zinc all seem to mimic damage to DNA from radiation.4 Everyone should consider a good multivitamin to cover their basic nutritional needs.

LOAD UP ON POLYPHENOLS: Polyphenols are found in many fruits and vegetables, green tea, black tea, red wine, coffee, chocolate, olives, and extra virgin olive oil. They are plant-based nutrients that have antioxidant benefits and help protect against cellular aging.5
Muscadine grapes
MUSCADINE GRAPES: These grapes, native to the United States, possess one of the highest antioxidant levels among fruits.6 They contain a high concentration of polyphenols, along with a high amount of ellagitannins and ellagic acid.7 Extracts of muscadine grape have been studied for their ability to help protect against inflammation and act as antioxidants.8,9

RESVERATROL: Studies suggest that resveratrol (a type of polyphenol) may slow cellular aging and have antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective properties.10,11

ANTHOCYANINS: This class of polyphenols, responsible for the deep red and blue coloring in fruits such as berries and grapes, possesses antioxidant, cardioprotective, and neuroprotective effects.12

While there is no way to stop the effects of aging completely, how fast you age may truly be in your control. There is a lot you can do to help slow cellular aging, and it starts with the nutrients you put in your body.

A Renewed Mind Vs A Doubtful Attitude

Life is so much about our thinking.  We always are what we think.   When you are in a situation comma that is a tough situation comma How often don't you think all this is terrible. And you are right it is terrible. and you're in another situation and you think this is wonderful and you are right it is wonderful. There are others who are looking at that same situation and are saying this is wonderful or this is terrible or there can be many different scenarios for the exact same situation. So my point is our outlook is always how we see things. Some people can always see good and some people always see something bad. So I'm asking today do you have a renewed mind or do you have a  doubtful attitude?

life is so much better when we look at the good side of things instead of looking at the bad side or the bad happenings. always wondering if something is going to go this way or that instead of believing it's going to go the way you want it. That means you have a vision and you will find a way that will work then.   Dr. Shaklee used to say that what you think you are what you think you do and what you think you look.

Celebrate Women’s Health!

Celebrate Women’s Health!

It’s never too early or too late to work toward being your healthiest you! This National Women’s Health Week, May 14–20, is a great time to empower all women to make their health a top priority.

Women often serve as primary caregivers for their families, putting the needs of their spouses, partners, children, and parents before their own. As a result, women’s health and well-being can become secondary. National Women’s Health Week brings together communities, businesses, government, health organizations, and other groups in an effort to promote women’s health. So remind all the women in your life to be sure they are taking care of their own health along with all the other people they care for.

Build health by building healthy habits
National Women’s Checkup Day is May 8. Follow these tips to help stay your healthiest.

GET PREVENTIVE SCREENINGS. Visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings. Important screenings for women include an annual physical, blood pressure test, and screenings for cervical cancer (pap test), cholesterol, and thyroid function. Starting at age 50, women should get screened for breast cancer every one to two years. And after menopause, women should get a bone density test to be screened for osteoporosis. Don’t forget to ask about nutrition screenings. You don’t have to guess if you are deficient in vitamin D or B12.

GET ACTIVE. Regular activity is one of the most effective strategies for maintaining a healthy weight. Regular physical activity helps to improve your cardiorespiratory (heart, lungs, and blood vessels) and muscular fitness, helps with mood, and can help reduce your risk of cognitive decline. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity daily. An example would be brisk walking—activity that raises your heart rate and during which you could talk but not sing. Also aim for strength-building (resistance) exercise 2-3 days per week.

EAT HEALTHY. Eating healthy isn’t really that difficult—and the health payoff is incredible. To reduce your risk of chronic diet-related health issues:

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables—at least seven servings per day. Smoothies can be a delicious way to increase your fruit & vegetable intake.
Eat whole grains, such as whole wheat, oatmeal, and brown rice—and avoid white grains
Eat lean proteins, including fish, skinless poultry, lean red meats, dry beans, and eggs
Cook primarily with monounsaturated fats, such as olive oil, and limit fried food
Limit saturated and trans fats, cholesterol, sodium, and excess sugars
Drink alcohol in moderation—for women, that means no more than one drink per day

Woman's supplements to feel better or get your money back

TAKE DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS. Supplements are needed to close the  nutritional gaps as most of our food is not picked ripe and that is where the nutrition gets into food. Supplements are not a replacement for food but just as they say supplemental to a good diet. Optimal Health is what we are going for.  This being Woman's Month we have a package that is great for women. *** Womans Health Package***

GET ENOUGH SLEEP AND MANAGE STRESS. Try to get a good night’s rest every night. Adequate sleep makes you more productive and energetic—this means 7–8 hours per night. Develop a sleep routine that includes limiting computer screen time at night. Recognize the signs of stress and take action to address it. Focus on controlling what you can, and let the rest go.

AVOID UNHEALTHY BEHAVIORS. Smoking, texting while driving, not wearing a seat belt or bicycle helmet, and other unhealthy or unsafe habits can severely damage your overall health.

Most of us go many days between trips to the doctor, a fact that makes it clear that we must take day-to-day responsibility for our health. Whether it’s pushing ourselves a little harder at the gym or calling our doctors to make sure we’re up to date on our screenings, we can all truly make a difference—not just for ourselves, but for all the people we love.

Allergies

As a child I suffered from horrible allergies. I wasn't able to play like other kids without my eyes puffing up and sneezing hundreds of times. All the medicines available made me very sleepy and groggy. As I got older, my allergies just got worse. When I was 17, I developed asthma, which was triggered by my allergies. This led to many scary episodes and lots of meds including oral and inhaled steroids for long periods of time. I felt like I was given a lemon of a body and I was stuck. A friend of mine told me about some things I could change in my diet and supplements that could help. I ignored her, thinking I was too far gone for that. If meds couldn't help me why would nutrition? Well, time passed and I had a baby. I started to think about being able to be outside and playing with my children and decided I needed to try something! In walked Shaklee to my life. I switched from the natural cleaners I was using to Shaklee and saw major changes in my allergies and health. I strengthened my immune system and within weeks I could feel a difference. I slowly weaned from my meds and I am happy to say I have been med free and feeling great now for 3 years! My immune system is stronger and I'm so thankful! I also have saved thousands of dollars per year on medications and doctor visits! I can live a normal life without the worry of constant asthma attacks and miserable seasonal allergies. There is no greater gift!
