Skin Changes in the Fall

Fall is finally here with its pumpkin spice everything, vibrant leaves, and cool breezes. The transition into the autumn season also means a change in the way our skin behaves. Change to Fall brings increased incidence for dry skin and dull skin tone. Also, for some people who are more prone to acne, they can even experience breakouts due to dryness leading to dead cells blocking pores.
You probably don't need to completely change your skin care regimen as we transition into fall, but you will need to make some small changes to ensure your skin stays healthy. To help you out, we've compiled a list of tips to keep your skin glowing throughout the autumn season:
  • Moisturize
We all know that when cooler weather comes around, it means a season of dry and flaky skin. Although a lightweight moisturizer is helpful in the summer when our skin produces more oil, during the cooler months it's important to opt for a heavier moisturizer. Try switching to a creamier formula that has hyaluronic acid in it, such as our YOUTH® Moisture Lock Day Cream, which quenches dehydrated skin and protects it from future moisture loss. Creams that contain hyaluronic acid also have added anti-aging benefits, so you can be glowing all autumn long.
  • Stay hydrated
When it's hot, we all know to drink water. When the weather gets cooler, sometimes it's easy to forget that we still need to be drinking six to eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated. Yes, it's difficult when you just want to sip on hot coffee or teas for warmth, but those hot beverages dehydrate you even more. When your body gets dehydrated, it causes a dull, dry skin tone which leads to more fine lines and wrinkles. Keep your skin-and body-happy by staying hydrated all season long.
  • Use sunscreen
Although the weather gets cooler, the sun doesn't disappear during fall and winter. Generally, the intensity of UVA radiation does not fluctuate significantly throughout the year, so damage can still occur. Sun damage can happen every day, even when it's overcast or 30 degrees outside. While it is true that UVB rays-which can cause sunburn during summer-aren't as strong during fall, UVA rays-which can lead to skin cancer and wrinkles-are just as strong as they are during the hotter months. Protecting your skin is a year-round job, so be sure to always apply sunscreen before going outside. We recommend using a moisturizer that is formulated with an SPF, such as our
YOUTH Age Defense Mineral Moisturizer or YOUTH® Activating BB Cream , to keep your skin hydrated and protected against UV damage.
  • Try a Face Mask
Fall means chilly nights curled up by the fireplace with a good book or your favorite TV show. These nights are the perfect time to pour a nice cup of tea and pamper yourself with an at-home face mask. For drier skin, try a hydrating gel mask to lock in moisture and give your skin that extra glow. Or, for clogged pores, try a purifying clay mask  absorb any excess toxins and leave your skin flawlessly beautiful. Having multiple skin problems? No worries, just try one of our multi-mask solutions to target all of your skin care issues this fall.
  • Make healthy food choices
Our skin often showcases what's going on inside of our bodies as well, which is why it's important to eat healthy. Autumn has plenty of amazing fresh produce-such as pumpkin, squash, and kale-that you can purchase locally and create delicious meals with. For those of us on the go who don't have a lot of time to cook, try a multivitamin to ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs to stay healthy.
